Photo mystery GAP

Students are given a photo and are to feedback what they see from a set of questions used to guide their observations. There are different photos (GAP) according to the level of challenge posed.

Introduce your lesson using a mystery picture for pupils to figure out and ensure progress right from the start.

Launch Resource

The aim of this starter activity is for pupils to analyse a picture and try to work out what the theme for the lesson is going to be.
Prior to the lesson you will need to prepare a picture related to the lesson theme which pupils can annotate.
Issue the pictures to the pupils and then ask them to annotate the picture using the following questions:
1. What do you see?
2. What questions does the photo raise?
3. What do you think the theme for today’s lesson is?
Pupils should be given a set amount of time to complete the task. (Remember this is a starter so the time limit should be short to ensure pace to the start of the lesson).
Once completed ask selected pupils to feedback their answers.
