Students are to use the TIP TOP formula (Time, Place, Topic & Person) to identify when to use paragraphs within their work and also to use for checking.

This resource is aimed at helping students to understand when to start a new paragraph within their extended writing.

They should start new paragraphs whenever there is a change of time, place, topic or person.

Time- Start a new paragraph when there is a change in the time that the text is referring to.

Place- Start a new paragraph when a change in place occurs within the text.

Topic- Start a new paragraph for a new topic.

Person- Start a new paragraph when a new person speaks.
