Text me GAP

Students are issued with a ‘text speak’ phrase to decipher. They will have 60 seconds to complete the exercise. There are 3 phrases signposted with GAP to show the level of challenge.

A quick action starter using mobile phone text speak to introduce the lessons learning. Make it as easy or difficult as you like.

This is a simple starter exercise where pupils are issued with a piece of text written in ‘text speak’.
The aim is for pupils to decipher the text to identify what it is saying. This text could be a fact or an instruction related to the lesson.
A 60 second timer is available on the resource.
Once the time has elapsed ask pupils to randomly feedback their answers. The class could hold a vote as to which they agree with.
This activity could be led by a pupil to minimise teacher talk.
